family christmas tree

My sweet friend, Amy Simon, gave me permission to share the story of the 2014 Simon Family Christmas Tree. First of all please know Amy is gifted at making a beautiful and welcoming home. She may not know this but she has inspired me over the years with her home making abilities. Well – she’s still inspiring me!

They always get a fresh tree each year. This year they decided to forgo spending money on a live tree and make memories by cutting a tree from their family land. As you can see the kiddos were into the mission to find their tree.

I just about spit my coffee out when I saw the tree the kids had picked. Amy posted this picture to Facebook and the comments immediately started rolling in and they had me rolling in the floor. Amy replied, “Don’t worry it will be great! Plus we made some memories and it was free! Dave Ramsey would be proud!” I couldn’t wait to see the finished product. Knowing Amy I knew it would be fabulous.

Picture perfect moment…

I kept checking in to get an update on the tree. As best as I can gather, Amy had to run to church and left Casey to trim the tree and get it into the house. I pictured a true Clark Griswold moment because that tree was MUCH taller than their ceilings. Shortly after pictures of the tree trimming were posted. Look at that joy and intensity.

On a side note, I have always been a little jealous of Amy’s tree skirt and garland. Her very thoughtful and clever mom made them from the fabric of her dresses as a child. How special is that?

Without further ado, I give you the Simon family Christmas tree! Isn’t it fabulous? I LOVE it. I love the memories this family made together. I love the joy they brought to others with this tree. Here’s what Amy had to say about the tree once it was finished…

So I have to say that our “hot mess” of a tree has taught me a lot…as corny as it sounds it is making me sit back and really enjoy this time of year with my kids and see it through their eyes! They see the beauty in this tree and the memory that we had chopping it down at the lake and that is what matters, not that it is perfect. So I guess that makes it perfect! However, next year I’ll be home when the shaping of the tree is done! Lol!

As you can see the Simon family Christmas tree has been the perfect backdrop for continued precious memories. Thank you, Simon family, for sharing your story, for spreading pure joy and for setting an example.
